Roland-Garros Junior Wild Card Series by Oppo: last slots decided!

Now we know all the players who will compete in the final in Paris.

From April 29 to May 1, 16 Indian players fought in Delhi for the last slots to compete in the final of the Roland-Garros Junior Wild Card Series by Oppo in Paris.

The Roland-Garros Junior Wild Card Series sees the best young girls and boys compete in Brazil, China and India. All of them, in their respective countries, want to win the national champion title and earn their place in the final of the circuit at Roland-Garros.

After Itajai (Brazil) and Anning (China), Delhi (India) hosted the final round of the competition within the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA).

Seed Mann Maulik Shah won the final in the boys category against fourth seed Madhwin Kamath in two sets of 7-6(1), 6-2. No. 4 seed Humera Baharmus won the girls' category final by beating Sarah Dev 7-5, 6-3.

Justine Henin: "really happy to be the Brand Ambassador of Roland-Garros"


Ambassador of the event, Justine Henin, four-time French Open champion and former world No. 1, shared a special moment with the young Indian talents.  She also told the local press her love of the Parisian Grand Slam and her passion for clay.

"I am really happy that I was given the opportunity to be the Brand Ambassador of Roland-Garros and of the Roland-Garros Junior Wild Card Series in India in particular. I have had the opportunity to win the tournament four times, and clay is something which is very close to my heart so I have enjoyed representing the tournament and sharing my knowledge."

"It is a unique chance for these young kids to live and experience a dream, and this tournament will help them in making it big at the international level, including the Roland-Garros 2019 Junior Draw. I am really happy to be a part of it, and thrilled to come to India. Playing tennis with these kids, and spending time with them has been a privilege for me, and I would like to wish them the best in their future endeavours."

With these encouragement, Humera and Mann won the precious sesame and joined Camilla Bossi and Gustavo Heide, qualified in Brazil (link to article), as well as Tian Fangran and Li Zixuan, qualified in China (link to article). The 3 girls and 3 boys will compete on Saturday June 25 on court 14 at Roland-Garros.
