The top two seeds, the current best male players on the planet, the Wimbledon 2026 singles draw has built to quite the crescendo. Centre Court will provide the historical setting for yet another major moment in SW19.

Jannik Sinner (No.1) vs Alexander Zverev (No.2)

💪 The context / The current form

As they walk around the Clubhouse, down the steps, past the trophy cabinet into the Member’s entrance, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev will collect their thoughts ahead of another Grand Slam final.

The Italian is bidding to successfully defend his Wimbledon title and become the 10th man in the Open Era to retain the trophy.

Over to Roland-Garros champion Alexander Zverev, who is also chasing history. With the victory, the No.2 seed would be hailed the first man in the Open Era to achieve a second Grand Slam singles trophy lift at the very next major after their first triumph.

They really are the true stars of the ATP Tour in 2026 as the only men to tally over 40 wins. Zverev holds a leading 44-10 record, just ahead of the world No.1 on 43-3.

It’s showtime in south west London!

🏆 Their 2026 tournament

It’s fair to say that Sinner endured a turbulent start to his title defence. Having escaped the first round, the top seed has incrementally improved, to then burst back to his ultra-dominant best facing Novak Djokovic on Friday.

1st round: victory against Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-3 (3hrs 30mins)

2nd round: victory against Nuno Borges 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 (2hrs 32mins)

3rd round: victory against Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 (2hrs 14mins)

Round of 16: victory against Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3 (2hrs 25mins)

Quarter-finals: victory against Jan-Lennard Struff 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-3 (2hrs 35mins)

Semi-finals: victory against Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 (2hrs 20mins)

By booking his fifth Grand Slam final, Zverev has ensured he’ll rise to world No.2 again. The 29-year-old has played and competed like a world No.2 – swatting away the ball with devastating power and precision.

The way Zverev dealt with the occasion of facing wild card Wimbledon local Arthur Fery demonstrated a man on a mission, completely at ease at this stage of a major once again.

2nd round: victory against Valentin Royer 6-1, 6-3, 7-6(3) (2hrs 4mins)

3rd round: victory against Marcos Giron 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4 (2hrs 34mins)

Round of 16: victory against Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6) (3hrs 22mins)

Quarter-finals: victory against Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 (1hr 59mins)

Semi-finals: victory against Arthur Fery 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4 (2hrs 14 mins)

🆚 Face-to-face

On paper this is Sinner’s silverware.

The world No.1 has won the past nine encounters against the towering German. The last time Zverev conducted the post-match on court winning interview was at US Open 2023!

In terms of Grand Slam finals, the Italian kept Zverev at bay 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 in the Australian Open 2025 trophy shootout.

What’s a positive for team Zverev? It’s their first meeting on grass – and he’s now a major champion too.

🎤 Heard in media

Jannik Sinner: “I expect less exchanges, less rhythm. This we know because of the surface being that fast. Being also quite warm, it's going to be good for big server. He is definitely a big server.

“But in any case, look, I try to do my best on Sunday. It feels good again being back in a Grand Slam final.

“I think it's a bit different between me and him, because he tried for so long, and then when you finally achieve it, it's amazing and then gives you this confidence boost… I saw the semis because was playing before me, so I was watching. He is very, very aggressive at the moment. He's very relaxed on court at the moment, so this is good. Yeah, so let's see.

“Whatever happened in the past between me and him, it happened. In between, he won a Grand Slam in Paris, which gave him a lot of confidence. We can see the level he's producing here. We all hope for a good match, and then we see how it goes.”

Alexander Zverev: “Jannik has won Wimbledon last year. For sure they feel very comfortable on this surface. I think the serve-return patterns are going to be very, very important against him. The rest, we'll see.” said Zverev, before assessing his Parisian major move.

“I feel like I worked on my game a lot. I feel like my game has improved. Sometimes in sports it's as simple as that.

“You can talk about mental stuff, you can talk about certain situations, coaching changes, whatever. But if you improve as a player and you make the decision as a player to improve, you're going to do better in tournaments.”
