Jannik Sinner just keeps raising the bar.

The world No.1 has arrived at Roland-Garros having compiled a career-best 29-match winning streak. Within that, the 24-year-old has captured his past five tournaments, is without defeat since February at the Qatar Open, and has reclaimed the top ranking off Carlos Alcaraz.

The milestones, the stats, it’s all pretty mind-boggling, with Sinner joining Djokovic as the only men to complete the Career Golden Masters, Sinner achieving the feat last weekend on home clay in Rome.

The Italian recuperated at his parents’ place, recharging his batteries ahead of a tilt at the only remaining Grand Slam trophy missing from his collection.

“It has been a very long but very positive period. I'm lucky to be in this position,” Sinner said. “Think it's always better to be in a position where you win and you start to feel tired than you feel very good but you lose a couple of rounds.

“I try to have a good balance now at the practice court, understanding when to push, and then hopefully be ready for the first-round match. Very happy to be back here. It's a very special tournament since first time I have played here.

“I think also the excitement helps you find a bit more energy during the tournament.”

There was plenty of excitement for Sinner as he joined in the ‘Gael & Friends’ celebration on Thursday night, which toasted French great Gael Monfils.

It marked Sinner’s first return to Court Philippe-Chatrier since his gladiatorial final defeat to Alcaraz 12 months ago, when Sinner surrendered three match points to his main rival in a match that lasted five hours and 29 minutes.

“Special feeling,” is how Sinner regards his return to the court. “Last year we were very close. But the feelings and the connection with the crowd was very nice (on Thursday). A lot of kids, which I really like to see. It was very nice also, the stairs up, the walk on.

“Of course I still think back to what happened (2025 final), but still very positive feelings.”

The top seed opens his campaign across the net from French wild card Clement Tabur, well aware that the chasing pack are intent on pushing for a chink in the Italian's extensive on-court armour for a shock.

The problem is that Sinner has only relinquished three sets during his 29-match winning march.

“Everyone is trying to beat (me), but that's also the most normal thing. You need to be ready. Best-of-five matches, they are a bit different,” the world No.1 added. “It gives you a little bit more time to understand how to beat a player, and even if you have a wrong start, then potentially you can find a way in.

“Let's see. I'm very sure I have very, very tough matches in front of me. I try to focus on myself.”
