Career overview
A leading figure of the new generation, Carlos Alcaraz has established himself in record time as the natural heir to the greatest champions of the modern era. Born on 5 May 2003 in El Palmar, in the Murcia region, he grew up in a tennis devoted family and took his first steps on court under the watchful eye of his father, a coach and club director. Turning professional in 2018, he immediately impressed with the maturity of his game and an unshakeable competitive fire.
The Spaniard’s rise took on a global dimension in 2022, when he captured his first Grand Slam title at the US Open, becoming the youngest world No.1 in history (at 19 years and 129 days). It was a breakthrough that clearly signalled what was to come. In 2023, he dethroned Novak Djokovic in an unforgettable Wimbledon final, before completing a rare Roland-Garros – Wimbledon double in 2024. These achievements confirmed the irresistible rise of a champion whose impact already far exceeds his age.
Building on his early exploits, "Carlitos" produced an exceptional 2025 season. After a legendary final – lasting 5 hours and 29 minutes, the longest in the tournament’s history – he managed to retain his crown at Roland-Garros, once again at the expense of his great generational rival, Jannik Sinner. He went on to claim seven additional titles, including the US Open (against Sinner again, who had nevertheless beaten him at Wimbledon), reclaiming the world No.1 ranking in the process. In January 2026, he added another landmark by winning his first Australian Open, becoming the youngest player of the Open Era to complete the career Grand Slam (aged 22 years and 272 days).
Fueled by total aggression, boundless creativity, pinpoint precision, blazing speed and an instinctive sense of timing, the Murcian embodies the modern game at its most explosive and spectacular. His main weapons – a devastating forehand, exquisite touch, constant variation and exceptional physical commitment – make him a flawless and fearsome competitor on every surface.
Marked by breathtaking duels already destined for posterity, his rivalry with Sinner has ushered the sport into a new era : that of the emerging "Big 2".
