An iconic figure in Ukrainian tennis for more than a decade, Elina Svitolina has established herself as one of the most consistent and resilient competitors of her generation. Born on 12 September 1994 in Odesa, she was introduced to the sport at a very young age by her athletic family and climbed each level with remarkable rapidity, eventually reaching the highest level of competition. Turning professional in 2010, she steadily built a career highlighted by major achievements, including a prestigious WTA Finals title in 2018 and an Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she became the first Ukrainian player ever to medal in tennis.
Season after season, Svitolina has forged her reputation through exceptional physical intensity, outstanding anticipation and a rare ability to absorb and redirect pace. Particularly comfortable on clay, she has been a regular quarter-finalist at Roland‑Garros since 2015. On other surfaces, she has gone even further, reaching the semi-finals at three of the four Grand Slams: Wimbledon (2019 and 2023), the US Open (2019) and the Australian Open (2026). A long‑standing member of the Top 10, she climbed as high as world No.3 in 2017, the year she captured her first WTA 1000 crowns in Dubai, Rome and Toronto, confirming her place among the elite.
In 2023, just a few months after giving birth to her daughter Skai – with her husband, French player Gaël Monfils – she made a thunderous return to the tour. She won the Strasbourg title before advancing to the quarter-finals at Roland‑Garros and the semi-finals at Wimbledon. Her game, built on ironclad defence, sharp transitions whenever the opportunity arises and a mindset strengthened by experience and adversity, allowed her to re-establish herself inside the Top 10 and to confirm this resurgence throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons, particularly on clay (title in Rouen, semi-finals in Madrid, quarter-finals in Rome and Roland‑Garros).
At the start of 2026, she added another major line to her résumé by reaching the last four in Melbourne, reaffirming her status as a fierce competitor capable of challenging - and defeating - the very best on the biggest stages. Tenacious, inspiring and inspired, Elina Svitolina remains one of the circuit’s most respected players, driven by a resilience that commands admiration.
