Andreeva played a composed, focused match full of discipline to end Marta Kostyuk’s 17-match unbeaten run and move into her first Grand Slam final at the age of 19.

The teenager, who was appearing in her second semifinal here after reaching the last four in 2024, quickly built leads in both sets before closing out a near-perfect performance 6-1, 6-3 in 76 minutes.

“I was at some point seeing the little hairs on the ball when I was tossing or playing,” revealed Andreeva afterwards, referring to the intense level of her focus throughout.

In contrast, the first set alone of Chwalinska’s win over world No.23 Diana Shnaider lasted longer than Andreeva’s entire match during a back-and-forth, mesmerising contest full of variety and changes in pace, trajectory, spins and depth.

The world No.114 became only the second qualifier to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open era with a 7-6(4), 6-4 result, her ninth victory during this fairytale stay in the French capital.

“It’s like a dream, honestly,” the left-hander said on court looking stunned. “I don't know what's going on.”

The Chatrier order of play had begun with the mixed doubles final when Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defended their title and produced yet more good news for Italian tennis.

The top seeds recovered from the loss of the first set to beat Canadian-American team Gabriela Dabrowski and Evan King 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 to collect their fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles trophy.

It was largely a good day for the top seeds in the wheelchair events as Japanese stars Yui Kamiji and Tokito Oda both dropped just two games apiece to move into the women’s and men’s semifinals respectively.

But the No.1 seed in the quad singles Sam Schroder was upset in three sets by Turkey’s Ahmet Kaplan who goes through to play another Dutchman, Niels Vink, in the final.

Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara won their men’s doubles semifinal against French team Quentin Halys and Pierre-Hugues Herbert to move into their first Roland-Garros final.

They’ll find out the identity of their opponents on Friday when another three doubles semifinals are played.

The two men’s singles semifinals headline Friday’s order of play with Jakub Mensik and Alexander Zverev starting at 2.30pm on Chatrier before the Matteo Arnaldi-Flavio Cobolli Italian derby not before 7pm.

Chris Oddo looked closely at the resurrection of Arnaldi’s tennis after a recent problematic foot injury, and Alix Ramsay previews the first match on Chatrier when Zverev aims to take another step towards a first Grand Slam title.
