One of the leading figures of the Next Gen and an electrifying presence on court, Stefanos Tsitsipas has left a lasting imprint on Roland‑Garros. After reaching world No.1 in the junior rankings in 2016, the Athens‑native player (born on 12 August 1998) wasted little time in carving out a prominent place on the professional circuit. As early as 2017, he became the first Greek player to break into the Top 100.

His breakthrough came at the end of 2018, when he reached the final of the Toronto Masters 1000 before lifting his maiden ATP title in Stockholm. That emergence was emphatically confirmed at the 2019 Australian Open, where Tsitsipas stormed into the semi‑finals, highlighted by a memorable victory over Roger Federer. A triumph that fuelled comparisons with the Swiss legend, particularly due to his elegant one‑handed backhand and attacking, all‑court style.

Crowned champion at the ATP Finals in 2019, Tsitsipas demonstrated his ability to shine on the biggest stages and across all surfaces, especially on clay, where his heavy topspin combined with creativity finds a perfect stage. He has often dazzled at Roland‑Garros, notably producing an unforgettable fourth‑round battle against Stan Wawrinka in 2019. Two years later, he came agonisingly close to lifting the Coupe des Mousquetaires.

Competing in his first Grand Slam final, the Greek led Novak Djokovic by two sets before ultimately falling in five, a scenario repeated against the Serbian star in the final of the 2023 Australian Open. Tsitsipas has also stamped his authority at the Monte‑Carlo Masters, a tournament he made his own by triumphing three times, in 2021, 2022 and 2024, further cementing his reputation as one of the circuit’s finest clay‑court specialists.

A former world No.3, Tsitsipas has been a central member – alongside Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem – of the generation that managed to shake the foundations of the “Big Three”, defeating each of them on multiple occasions. Though physical setbacks have occasionally slowed his momentum, the Greek still has time firmly on his side and every reason to keep believing in his ambitions.
