Three emblematic Roland-Garros collaborations

Chantal Thomass

For the 2014 tournament, Roland-Garros invited fashion designer Chantal Thomass to design an exclusive capsule collection that would showcase feminine tennis style.

Irresistibly retro, the Roland-Garros x Chantal Thomass collection was a clever blend of glamour and feminine sophistication with a sporty vibe. The line was made up of around fifteen items and accessories with quirky details, available in Chantal Thomass’ three favourite colours: black, white and pink.

"I drew a lot of inspiration from Suzanne Lenglen and 1920s tennis, which had a very chic, very elegant feminine side,” the designer explained.

The iconic polo shirt – the centrepiece of this collection – was decorated with a satin pussycat bow on the collar and a bib-style front, and teamed with a pleated skirt, sunhat and visor.

We loved: The black pussycat bow polo shirt, which featured a contrasting pink trim and a satin ribbon.

Yohji Yamamoto

In 2015, it was Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto’s turn to design his first exclusive collection for Roland-Garros. This capsule collection jazzed up basic sportwear pieces and was created especially for the legendary French Grand Slam.

Showcased by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Roland-Garros 2008 champion Ana Ivanovic, the collection was made up of technical items that had been given a twist with modern colours and cuts. Yohji Yamamoto’s favourite black and white palette was given a shot of colour, courtesy of a bright Hawaiian print.

We loved: The tennis dress worn by Ana Ivanovic, with its Hawaiian-print shorts underneath.

Stella McCartney

World-famous fashion designer Stella McCartney did not want to miss the opportunity to get involved in Roland Garros 2014. A savvy blend of style and technology, the "Stella McCartney Barricade" collection was made up of iconic pieces such as dresses, zip-up vest tops and tennis shoes.

But the real centrepiece of the collection was its pleated skirt, which was a zingy green colour. A chic and memorable retro capsule collection.
