2015

Highlights of the tournament

Rafael Nadal will have to wait a little longer to celebrate his Décima. Beaten by Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, the Majorcan saw his tally of victories stall at nine. This defeat seemed like a passing of the baton between the two men, so much so that one of the tournament outsiders, Stan Wawrinka, was somewhat overlooked. After having swept aside Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals, the Swiss player caused a sensation by clinching his very first Roland-Garros crown after defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. Stan Wawrinka prevented the Serb from winning the only Grand Slam title that is still missing from his trophy cabinet.

After triumphing in 2002 and 2013, Serena Williams managed to complete a Roland Garros triple by winning the women’s singles tournament, her 20th Grand Slam title to date. Suffering from flu at the beginning of the fortnight, the American had to dig deep in order to reach the final. After an awe-inspiring battle, she managed to overpower one of the 2015 tournament’s revelations, the Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova.
