Hailed from a very young age as one of the brightest prospects in world tennis, Marta Kostyuk has steadily established herself as a rising force on the WTA Tour before fully unleashing her potential in 2026 with a landmark triumph at the Caja Magica.
Born in Kyiv in 2002, the Ukrainian quickly stood out as a teenager thanks to her precocity and strong‑willed temperament. At just 14 years old, she captured the Australian Open girls’ title in 2017 and went on to reach the final of the US Open juniors later that same year. A few months afterwards, she announced herself to the wider public in Melbourne, where she came through qualifying to reach the third round of the Australian Open at only 15. A first at Grand Slam level for more than two decades.
Kostyuk gradually confirmed her promise on the professional circuit, climbing the WTA rankings step by step. She broke into the Top 100 at the end of 2020, then the Top 50 in 2021, shortly after reaching the round of 16 at Roland‑Garros. Since 2024, she has been a fixture inside the Top 20. But it was in 2026 that she truly took the next step. Finally free from the physical setbacks and external big expectations that had accompanied her early success, the protégé of Sandra Zaniewska allowed her talent to flourish, claiming back‑to‑back titles at the WTA 250 in Rouen – her second trophy at that level – and, most notably, the WTA 1000 in Madrid.
Known for her outspoken nature, Kostyuk has never hesitated to speak up on issues close to her heart, including her unwavering commitment to her country. A strong personality that finds a natural extension on court through an aggressive and intense style of play. Lively and explosive, she thrives on taking the ball early, particularly off the backhand side or on return, where her timing allows her to impose immediate pressure.
If emotions have at times threatened to get the better of her, the strides she has made in managing the psychological side of her game have been central to her recent success and should enable her to aim even higher in the years to come.
