The grass season is short and sharp. Last week witnessed four supreme talents holding aloft trophies with Wimbledon starting on Monday.

ATP/WTA: Silverware statements ahead of Wimbledon
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina breaks title heartache with Zizou Bergs, Madison Keys and Karolina Muchova also lifting titles.

What a story of resilience.
Way back at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina shot into the limelight. The Spaniard lost that final to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Three years later and ‘Foki’ fell at the final on four occasions in 2025. Two heartbreaking defeats stood out. Firstly, Davidovich Fokina surrendered two championship points to lose the Delray Beach final to Miomir Kecmanovic. Then in Washington, he couldn’t shut the door, failing to convert three championship points facing Alex de Minaur.
All of that pain was erased on Sunday as the Spaniard triumphed on home grass in Mallorca 7-6(4), 6-3 versus Ethan Quinn to land a maiden ATP title.
"It feels amazing to have the first title after five (previous) finals,” said world No.23 Davidovich Fokina. “Today was a very tough battle, he played amazing. In the tie-break, I was pushing myself. In the end I knew that this one has to be mine, in Spain, at home, the first one. It should be mine and I pushed a lot.
“The crowd was amazing. I felt the love. One hundred per cent the title is for them, for the Spanish people that supported me and all the journey last year and this year. It was a tough, very tough year, but a very, very good year. I don't have any words to describe this feeling right now."
The Wimbledon No.22 seed begins his campaign in south-west London against Juan Manuel Cerundolo today.
Third time lucky for Zizou
On Sunday night, Zizou Bergs posted on Instagram “Forever an ATP champion now.”
The Belgian joined Davidovich Fokina as a first-time titlist with a rain-delayed 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ugo Humbert for glory in Eastbourne, UK.
Adding to his euphoria, Bergs had lost finals in Auckland and 's-Hertogenbosch last season, making it third time lucky.
Despite arriving on the British coastline on a six-match tour-level losing streak, Bergs then became the first Belgian man to win an ATP event on grass.
Up to a career-high world No.37, Bergs heads to Wimbledon where remarkably he will duel with world No.30 Humbert again on Tuesday!
Keys joins the greats
Three Eastbourne finals, three trophy lifts.
Australian Open 2025 champion Madison Keys captured an 11th career title with a 7-5, 6-4 scoreline over Germany’s evergreen Tatjana Maria on Saturday.
As a reward, the American joins her legendary compatriots Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova as the only WTA players to win the south-coast event three times or more.
“This is such a special place for me. I won my first title her in Eastbourne, many, many years ago,” said Keys. “To be able to win it for a third time means the absolute world to me.”
The American is seeded No.26 at Wimbledon and will take on countrywoman and qualifier Kayla Day in the first round on Tuesday at SW19.
Muchova rejoins the elite
Karolina Muchova burst back into the Top 10 with a first ever grass court title.
The Czech was leading Naomi Osaka 6-1, 1-0 prior to the Japanese star retiring injured.
Muchova moved from world No.11 to No.9, having clinched a second title of the year to compliment a silverware success in Doha.
“For me, it couldn’t have been a better week for me in Bad Homburg. Well, maybe if it was 10 degrees less it could have been better,” said Muchova with a grin. “But I’m so happy to win my first WTA 500 title, my first on the grass.”

Talking turns to action at Wimbledon

Reigning champion Jannik Sinner opens proceedings on Centre Court against Miomir Kecmanovic. World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and seven-time champion Novak Djokovic will also feature on the main stage.
