Goodnight from Paris

As the time heads towards midnight, it's been another edge-of-your-seat end to the day as Jakub Mensik books his place in Friday's semifinals. He joins Marta Kostyuk, Mirra Andreeva and Alexander Zverev as quarterfinal winners today on a busy one here at RG when there was also doubles, wheelchair tennis and junior action to keep the fans onsite entertained. We have another four singles quarterfinals tomorrow when Chatrier kicks off at 11am. Check the links below for everything you need to know. See you in the morning.

Mensik on-court interview

23:24

Mensik: I stayed focused

"We started a bit nervous," Mensik admits in his on-court interview. "Towards the end of the match there were some incredible shots and I'm super happy that I was the one who came back. I stayed focused, stayed in the match and kept fighting till the end."

The 20-year-old from Czechia now has two days off before returning on Friday to face world No.3 Zverev.

23:18

Mensik beats Fonseca 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3)

Jakub Mensik moves into his first Grand Slam semifinal by digging deep over the closing stages and converting his seventh match point for a dramatic 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over Joao Fonseca on Court Philippe-Chatrier. The 20-year-old books a meeting with No.2 seed Alexander Zverev in Friday's semis.

Mensik saved a set point towards the end of the third set when Fonseca served at 5-4, then missed six match points as the Brazilian served to stay in the contest at 5-6 before bouncing back to play a rock solid tiebreak to finally finish the job.

23:06

Fonseca saves SIX match points, into a breaker

What a crazy, crazy few games. Mensik seems to have brushed whatever his physical problems were aside and saved a set point when Fonseca served for the third at 5-4 then broke back by converting his fifth opportunity of the game before holding for 6-5. The Czech has just missed SIX match points - the second when he hit an easy overhead wide - and Fonseca has somehow held for 6-6 to take us into a third set tiebreak. What next?!?

22:33

Fonseca breaks for 4-3 lead

The third set swings back Fonseca's way when Mensik nets a forehand at 15-40 in the seventh game. Mensik still looks hampered physically but there's been no visit from a physio. Fonseca looks stressed he can't find a better level to make this set more straightforward than it is. The match is finely balanced right now. It's tense.

22:22

Mensik breaks back

It's all happening. Mensik continues to look hindered in his movement with the physical issue that's cropped up (it looks like it's a glute problem) but Fonseca can't make the most of his opponent's problems as he plays a loose game on serve to allow the Czech to break back. It's 2-2 in the third.

22:08

Fonseca breaks opening game

Well, well, well... Fonseca returns from his bathroom visit and breaks in the first game of the third set when Mensik double faults. It's the first time tonight we've heard those chants of 'Joaoooo Fon-secaaaa'. Can the Brazilian's fans inspire the teenager to find some energy and start to turn this around? To add to the drama, Mensik seems to be hurting physically from out of nowhere, stretching out his left leg. Fascinating stuff...

21:57

Mensik leads 6-4, 6-3

A tired-looking Joao Fonseca will have to come from two sets down tonight if he's going to turn this quarterfinal around. Jakub Mensik has played a superb match so far, serving big and managing the occasion perfectly. The Czech breaks for a second time inside a few minutes to jump into a 6-4, 6-3 lead and is a set away from his first Grand Slam semifinal. Fonseca trudges towards the player tunnel to do some thinking during a bathroom break.

Junior star Hance inspired on the clay

A quick nod to the juniors in action today and Chris Oddo was out and about chatting to some of the best young talent in the world. On Tuesday he met Californian 18-year-old Keaton Hance, who spent his youth practicing with fellow American star and childhood friend Iva Jovic. "I enjoy clay more than any other surface," the teenager told CO.

“I grew up hitting with Iva because there weren’t many kids that were actually taking tennis very seriously around our neighbourhood," Hance said. "We became good friends and hit a lot from when we were like seven or eight, up until age 15 or 16."

Mensik up a set and a break

Mensik does well to hold from 0-30 in the fourth game of the second set, hitting three monster serves to get himself out of trouble. At 2-2 in the fifth game the big Czech strikes once more with the help of a world class backhand pass that brings up a break point. He then converts his break chance to take control of the second set at 6-4, 3-2.

Maria, Guga and Becks

Maria Sharapova, former England footballer David Beckham and Gustavo Kuerten have all been at RG today and 'Guga' is in the big house tonight supporting his fellow Brazilian Joao Fonseca.

21:15

First set Mensik 6-4

The break of serve that came in the fifth game makes the difference as Jakub Mensik holds onto his advantage to take the first set off Joao Fonseca 6-4 in 42 minutes. Mensik wraps it up with a big serve and forehand drive volley combo after striking 15 winners during that opening chapter.

21:04

Mensik a break up

Mensik is the first to break when he takes the Fonseca serve for a 3-2 lead and he's getting some big hits in during this first set. He has another chance to break at 4-2 but Fonseca stays in the set, surviving the seventh game with a delicate backhand drop shot. The Brazilian hasn't quite found the same energy levels that we've seen in previous matches so far. Mensik is serving at 4-3.

20:30

Fonseca-Mensik ready to roll

The Chatrier night session is under way. Nineteen-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca against 20-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik for a spot in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev on Friday. Neither has reached a Grand Slam semifinal before. Follow the tennis through the usual links below. Fonseca will serve first, and we have the roof closed due to rain in the area this evening.

Men's and women's doubles quarterfinals have been going on in Paris today and the No.5 seeds and recent Rome champions Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori survived by the skin of their teeth. The Italian team, who lost in the Paris final in 2024, saved two match points to beat Czech-Austrian team Neil Oberleitner and Petr Nouza 6-7(7), 6-1, 7-6[14-12] under the Lenglen roof.

Women's doubles top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were also quarterfinal winners on Tuesday 6-1, 6-3 against Magali Kempen and Andreja Klepac.

Tribune Concorde returns tomorrow

After the success of last year, the free fan zone returns to Place de la Concorde in the centre of Paris for five days from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 June. Spectators will be able to soak up the atmosphere with space for relaxation and entertainment, featuring an all-day DJ and MC, food trucks, terraces next to the screens, a bar, a Roland-Garros store, and activities including urban tennis and a competition to win tournament tickets.

And as last year, champions from the singles, doubles, wheelchair and junior events will all pay a visit to the fan zone to show off their trophies.

Night promo: Fonseca vs Mensik

The Zverev win wraps up singles quarterfinal action until this evening when Joao Fonseca and Jakub Mensik will be out at 20:15 to decide who plays the German in Friday's semifinals.

17:41

Zverev on-court interview

17:15

Zverev beats Jodar 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-3

Alexander Zverev is the first man into the semifinals, sealing victory on Chatrier with a missile of a forehand winner up the line.

After a first set scare, in the end it was relatively comfortable for the No.2 seed as the German returns to the RG semifinals for the fifth time in his career with a 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar.

Once he'd recovered from 2-5 to steal the first set, the world No.3 was always in control to set up a semifinal on Friday against either Joao Fonseca or Jakub Mensik, who play tonight.

Jodar's form recently will take him to around No.23 in the live ATP rankings (depending on results of those around him) as he heads off to prepare for the grass season.

16:49

Oda quickly in the winning groove

Roland-Garros 2026 wheelchair events begin today and one of the early winners in the men's singles is Japan's world No.1 Tokito Oda, who eased past Britain's Gordon Reid 6-2, 6-4 on Court 14. Oda is going for his fourth successive Roland-Garros men's title and currently holds all four of the sport's Grand Slam singles titles.

The great Diede de Groot is one of the first through to the second round of the women's singles after getting past fellow Dutchwoman Lizzy de Greef 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.

Fun in the sun

Away from Chatrier, the grounds are now bathed in warm sunshine and outside courts are beginning to resume after a brief rain break.

There's a big crowd of South Americans around Court 4 where Brazilian boys' top seed Guto Miguel (Chris Oddo met him yesterday) is a set up on American Ryan Cozad. I'm guessing a fair few of those around that court are Brazilian fans with tickets for today's night session when Joao Fonseca is back to face Jakub Mensik for a place in the semis.

Zverev leads 7-6(3), 6-1

Former finalist Alexander Zverev needs just one more set to return to the semifinals here for a fifth time as he races through the second set 6-1 on Chatrier. Perhaps the amount of tennis 19-year-old Rafa Jodar has played over the last few weeks is beginning to catch up on him. The Madrid youngster won the Marrakech ATP title, reach the semifinals in Barcelona and last eight in Madrid, Rome and here in Paris. All that as a teenager. Into set three...

16:20

Zverev pulling clear

Rafa Jodar is in a tough place right now, down a set and now an early break in the second as Zverev makes his move for a 3-1 lead.

The No.2 seed produces a solid game on serve and after trailing 5-2 in the first set is now ahead by a set and 4-1.

16:00

First set Zverev 7-6(3)

Alexander Zverev produces an impressive comeback from 2-5 in the first set to steal the opener off youngster Rafael Jodar in a tiebreak.

Jodar broke first but when he led 5-2 Zverev won 11 points in a row, a run that featured the German breaking the Spaniard back to love.

The world No.3 then dominated the tiebreak to edge an opening chapter that lasted 68 minutes under the Chatrier roof.

Zverev is two sets away from a fifth Roland-Garros semifinal in the last six years.

Kostyuk-Andreeva semifinal

So with two matches down and two to go on Chatrier today we have our first women's semifinal set for Thursday when eighth seed Mirra Andreeva and 15th seed Marta Kostyuk will face off for a place in the final. One of them will reach a first Grand Slam final this week.

Coming up on Chatrier in the next few minutes is the first men's quarterfinal as No.2 seed Alexander Zverev takes on Spanish teenage sensation Rafael Jodar who plays his first major QF at the age of 19. We'll continue under the Chatrier roof as there's still rain in the area around Roland-Garros.

Kostyuk beats Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2

Marta Kostyuk is a Roland-Garros semifinalist as she beats fellow-Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in three sets on Chatrier.

The 23-year-old played a brilliant final set to move into her first Grand Slam semifinal 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to extend her win streak to 17 matches.

She’s the first ever Ukrainian to reach the women’s semifinals in Paris.

“I want to give this match to Ukrainian people and to their resilience,” an emotional Kostyuk said on court to a deafening and prolonged response from the Chatrier crowd.

“I’m so happy to be through to the semifinals but I want to thank Elina for this incredible match.”

More Monday madness

Our intrepid RG reporters had another busy one yesterday as the last of the fourth-round matches filled the remaining slots in the line-up for this year’s quarterfinals.

Dan Imhoff started the day on Chatrier, watching as No.10 seed Flavio Cobolli moved into his first RG quarterfinal. Dan later returned to Chatrier to watch Felix Auger-Aliassime set a relatively smooth, straight-sets course into the quarterfinals with victory over Alejandro Tabilo in just over two hours.

Chris Oddo took the opener on Lenglen, which was quite the rollercoaster as Anastasia Potapova failed to serve out the match twice, allowing Anna Kalinskaya to come back for the win. He later watched a fit and firing Matteo Berrettini become the second Italian to get through to the quarterfinals. Loving to get out and about, Chris also caught up with a Brazilian star in the making - No.1 seed in the boys’ singles Luis Guto Miguel, who is getting a few tips from compatriot Joao Fonseca here in Paris.

In surely his finest work to date, we let Alex Sharp off the leash to go and find out about the dogs that some players have brought to Roland-Garros. It was a ruff day but someone had to do it. Once he’d finished, he tag-teamed with Chris on Lenglen to watch Diana Shnaider hail a “huge moment” as she downed 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys. He then settled in for a humdinger of a match between Frances Tiafoe and Matteo Arnaldi, who after five hours and 26 minutes became the third Italian to move through to the quarters - the first time three Italians have been in the same Grand Slam quarterfinal in the Open era.

Victoria Chiesa kept an eye on the night session as No.1 seed Aryna Sabalenka brought all her serving prowess on to Chatrier to move past Naomi Osaka and into her 14th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Lee Goodall called it a wrap in the early hours of Tuesday.

12:34

Svitolina and Kostyuk are out on Chatrier

Welcome to Day 10

After a week of blazing hot sunshine and clear skies, we’ve woken up to some different weather this morning. ☔

Outside courts are currently not scheduled to begin until 12:00, but with a roof on Courts Philippe-Chatrier and Suzanne-Lenglen things will get underway as scheduled at 11:00.

It’s the first day of quarterfinals and after a few more surprises and upsets yesterday, there are eight exciting men’s and women’s matches to come over the next two days.

Getting things started is the first of three 19-year-olds playing today. No.8 seed Mirra Andreeva faces Sorana Cirstea, who is playing in her final season on tour and coming up with some of the best results of her career. After that it’s a quarterfinal between Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina - guaranteeing that there will be a Ukrainian in the Roland-Garros semifinal for the first time in the Open era.

➡️  Day 10 Match of the Day: An all-Ukrainian affair

Another 19-year-old takes to court for the third match as Rafael Jodar, playing in only his second Grand Slam event, comes up against No.2 seed Alexander Zverev - who has made the semifinals here on four occasions and was runner-up in 2024.

And under the lights tonight, two of this tournament's many ‘marathon men’ for the gruelling five setters they’ve already come through meet for the night session - Czech Jakub Mensik and exciting Brazilian Joao Fonseca who is… you’ve guessed it… 19 years old.
