News, photos and live updates from Roland-Garros 2026 on Day 9 of the main draw
Berrettini stops Cerundolo
Matteo Berrettini is back in a major quarterfinal for the first time since the 2022 US Open after recovering from a break down in the third set to beat Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 7-6(2), 7-6(6).
Cerundolo had chances to win the third set as he served for it and had a 6-3 lead in the breaker before Berrettini won the last five points of the match.
It’s the Italian’s seventh Grand Slam quarterfinal and his second in Paris after a run to the last eight here in 2021. The world No.105 will face either Frances Tiafoe or fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi on Wednesday.
FAA on track
Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime looks on his way to completing his set of major quarterfinals as he goes two sets to love ahead against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 7-5. The No.4 seed has reached two US Open semifinals and the last eight at both Wimbledon and in Melbourne, but has never got past the fourth round here in Paris.
Forza Matteo
Matteo Berrettini looks on his way to a second RG quarterfinal and his first since 2021, up two sets to love 6-3, 7-6(2) on Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Lenglen. There is hope for the Argentine lefty though as he’s just broken and held to lead 4-2 in the third. Remember JMC came through the longest match of the tournament after five hours and 58 minutes when he outlasted Martin Landaluce in the third round. He knows a thing or two about winning marathon matches...
'Be humble, that's the most important thing'
Boys' top seeded Brazilian Luis Guto Miguel has been getting advice from compatriot Joao Fonseca as the junior navigates the draw at Roland-Garros this year. The 17-year-old won his first-round singles this morning against Japan's Hyu Kawanishi.
Fire and ice: Sabalenka vs Osaka
A quick reminder that we have two four-time major champions on a collision course this evening as Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka meet under the lights on Chatrier at 20.15 local time. Read Alix Ramsay's preview and check out the promo video below...
Matteo marching on Lenglen
Back to the tennis and we have two men’s fourth round matches to keep us entertained on the main show courts for the next couple of hours.
On Lenglen Matteo Berrettini looks to join fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli in the last eight and he’s made a good start by winning the first set 6-3 against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, the Argentine who took out Jannik Sinner last week.
On Chatrier, No.4 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alejandro Tabilo are in the early stages.
Champions League trophy on Chatrier
Roland-Garros neighbours Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal to win the Champions League trophy in Budapest at the weekend and some of the squad have appeared on Chatrier with the trophy. RG writer and tennis' biggest 'Gooner' Alex Sharp look away now...
A treat for Day (ca)nine in Paris
This year there are 10 dogs who have accompanied players to Roland-Garros - each getting their own accreditation to boot. Alex Sharp went behind the scenes to sniff out the story and find out more about RG’s furry friends.
Warning: We usually try to keep a curb on Alex’s puns, but we’ve let him off the leash on this one.

Polish qualifier powers through
Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska makes short work of Frenchwoman Diane Parry 6-3, 6-2 on Chatrier to book her first Grand Slam quarterfinal. The 24-year-old has now won seven matches in Paris to become the first qualifier to make the last eight of the women’s singles since 2020. The world No.114 also becomes only the fourth Polish woman to reach that stage of any of the four Grand Slams in the Open era after Iga Swiatek, Agnieszka Radwanska and Magda Linette.
First quarterfinal for Shnaider
No.25 seed Diana Shnaider has knocked out 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys to move through to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in singles.
The 22-year-old delivered a 6-0 third set to defeat the 19th-seeded American, and will now face either Aryna Sabalenka or Naomi Osaka in the last eight.
Imodium to Chatrier...
If you missed Flavio Cobolli's on-court interview earlier today you can have a watch below. Safe to say he took everybody by surprise...

Watch the wheelchair draws live
At 3.30pm Paris time this afternoon the singles and doubles draws for the Roland-Garros 2026 wheelchair events will be made and you can watch live on the official Roland-Garros YouTube channel. The wheelchair events start on Tuesday and run from June 2-6.
Shnaider set up on Keys
No.25 seed Diana Schnaider has played a good first set on Lenglen against former Paris semifinalist Madison Keys where she's taken the first set 6-3. The 22-year-old is yet another player looking to break new ground today having never been to a Grand Slam quarterfinal before.
'I don't have any nerves left'
Anna Kalinskaya comes through fraught rollercoaster of a fourth-round encounter against Anastasia Potapova.
➡️ Kalinskaya battles past Potapova for first RG quarterfinal
Nervy Cobolli scrambles into QF
Italian Flavio Cobolli will be letting out a huge sigh of relief after finally finishing off American Zach Svajda in four sets to move into a first Paris quarterfinal.
The Italian No.10 seed was cruising when he led by two sets to one and 5-1 double break before finding himself in a scrap when Zvajda fought back to force a fourth set tiebreak.
Cobolli held it together long enough to win the breaker 7-5 to go through 6-2, 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(5). He’ll play No.4 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or Chile's Alejandro Tabilo next.
High stakes tennis
We’re starting to see the first signs of players trying to deal with the stress of playing big matches in the second week of a Grand Slam, where the opportunity to move deeper into a major draw can start to make getting a tennis ball over the net and into court even more complicated, especially when the nerves start to jangle. First it was Anastasia Potapova who twice failed to serve out her match before losing to Anna Kalinskaya, and now Flavio Cobolli is tightening up on Chatrier. The Italian was a game away from a four-set win over Zach Svajda when he led two sets to one and 5-1 with a double break and he’s now about to head into a fourth set tiebreak hoping to avoid a fifth set.

Kalinskaya survives to make QF
It’s a first Roland-Garros quarterfinal for 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya after an incredible comeback on Lenglen to beat Anastasia Potapova 6-4, 2-6, 7-6[10-7] in just under three hours.
Potapova served for the match twice - at 5-4 and 6-5 in the third set - and led 4-0 in the deciding tiebreak before the match slipped away. It’s Kalinskaya’s second major quarterfinal after the 27-year-old reached the last eight at the 2024 Australian Open.
Tuesday’s order of play is out
It’s the first day of men’s and women’s singles quarterfinals - all on Chatrier. Kicking things off is No.8 seed Mirra Andreeva, who meets Romanian Sorana Cirstea, playing in her final season on tour but performing better than ever.
Then it’s an all-Ukrainian meeting for Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk, before Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar, who has come through two gruelling five-setters already in his first four matches takes to court to face No.2 seed Alexander Zverev.
There's guaranteed entertainment in the night session as never-give-up Czech Jakub Mensik faces popular Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca. They're a similar age, a similar ranking and seeding, and both are already further than they've ever been in a Grand Slam.
Svajda steals the third
American world No.85 Zach Svajda is still in this fourth round match with No.10 seed Flavio Cobolli as he nicks the third set tiebreak 7-3 on Chatrier. The 23-year-old from La Jolla, California is the first player to take a set off the Italian this tournament. So he's into a fourth, with Cobolli up 6-2, 6-3, 6-7(3). Join the fun with the RG radio team.
Potapova flips the script
Anastasia Potapova has levelled up on Lenglen, taking the second set in her fourth-round clash with Anna Kalinskaya.
Potapova is bidding for a first quarterfinal spot at RG, which would be her best showing at any Grand Slam. Kalinskaya was a quarterfinalist in Melbourne in 2024.

Sunday recap
Sunday’s first day of R4 matches threw up more shocks and surprises. Big names fell and up-and-comers put in remarkable performances.
Chatrier's opener pitted Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk against four-time RG champion Iga Swiatek. Dan Imhoff took his seat to watch as Kostyuk denied Iga the chance of a first clay-court title in two years. Not wanting to lose his seat, Dan stayed to watch another Ukrainian, Elina Svitolina, who defeated Belinda Bencic to set up a quarterfinal against Kostyuk.
With no match to cover in the morning, Chris Oddo got out to chat to fans. He hung around the big scoreboard outside Court 9 and asked people for their men's champion predictions, and even bumped into Jesper de Jong’s dad. Given that several people chose Zverev for the title, Chris felt he should check out the German’s match against De Jong, in which Zverev faced few problems. Chris had one more story to file on Sunday: a thoughtful piece on Zach Svajda - currently in action on Chatrier - his 2026 season of grief off court and success on it, and how he has navigated both.
Alex Sharp took up position on Lenglen for the all-Spanish showdown between 34-year-old Pablo Carreno Busta and 19-year-old Rafael Jodar. Youth, on this occasion, was the winner. Also seizing the opportunity to keep his seat, Alex then watched as No.8 seed Mirra Andreeva moved past Swiss Jil Teichmann and into the quarterfinals here for a third successive year.
Victoria Chiesa kept an eye on Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca as he secured his first Grand Slam quarterfinal with a late-night, four-set win over Casper Ruud.
And as always, Lee Goodall was on hand to wrap it all up for you.
Comeback charge from Kalinskaya on Lenglen
No.22 seed Anna Kalinskaya has come from 4-1 down against Anastasia Potapova, taking five consecutive games to secure the first set.
The pair have played each other on only two previous occasions, with Kalinskaya winning both, although they haven't met since 2022 and never on clay.
First set to Cobolli
No.10 seed Flavio Cobolli has wasted no time in imposing himself on this match, taking the first set 6-2 in just 43 minutes.
This is Cobolli's first visit to the second week at Roland-Garros, and should he win it will be a second Grand Slam quarterfinal for the Italian following his last-eight showing at Wimbledon last year.
A good sport
Just five minutes in on Chatrier and Zvajda takes a tumble. Cobolli doesn't hesitate to offer assistance before the pair crack on with their fourth-round match - with both bidding for a first-time quarterfinal at Roland-Garros.
All courts are in action
Flavio Cobolli and Zach Zvajda are underway on Chatrier, while over on Lenglen Anastasia Potapova - who knocked out defending champion Coco Gauff in the third round - is facing world No.24 Anna Kalinskaya.
Welcome to Day 9
Half of the quarterfinals in the singles have been set and the others will be decided today. There are eight fourth-round singles clashes, with all courts getting underway at 11:00.
No.10 seed Flavio Cobolli kicks things off on Chatrier as he meets the USA’s Zach Svajda, who has had a remarkable season in 2026, navigating grief and a blossoming tennis career.
2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys was out practising earlier on Court 15 ahead of her fourth-round match on Suzanne-Lenglen against world No.23 Diana Shnaider.
Later on Lenglen, Frances Tiafoe faces Italian Matteo Arnaldi. The American No.19 seed has been revising his approach to tennis and changing things up - and it’s reaping rewards.
➡️ Day 9 Match of the Day: New-look Tiafoe
And it's ladies’ night under the lights tonight as No.1 seed Aryna Sabalenka meets Naomi Osaka - each the holder of four Grand Slam titles. Keep an eye out for Osaka’s walk-on outfit and for some powerful, all-court tennis too.
