Career overview
A major revelation in French tennis, Loïs Boisson has established herself in record time as one of the leading faces of the new generation on the WTA Tour. Built on patience, hard work and resilience, her trajectory took a spectacular turn in 2025.
Born on 16 May 2003 in Dijon, into a family deeply rooted in sport, she took up tennis relatively late, at the age of eight, after initially practising basketball. Trained in several respected environments – notably in Dijon, on the French Riviera and later in Italy – Loïs Boisson gradually shaped the profile of a complete player, disciplined and mentally strong. Drawn early to clay, she developed a game based on patience, heavy ball-striking and an excellent understanding of the game.
Turning professional in 2021, her progression was first slowed by shoulder injuries that temporarily halted her momentum. Rather than curbing her ambitions, those setbacks strengthened her character. Upon returning to competition, she produced a string of strong results on the secondary circuit, before taking a first major step forward in 2024 by winning the WTA 125 event in Saint‑Malo. That rise, however, was brutally interrupted by a cruciate ligament injury in her knee suffered just two weeks before the Parisian Major.
In 2025, the Dijon native enjoyed an exceptional spring, crowned by a breakthrough run at Roland‑Garros. Invited by the organisers, she defeated Elise Mertens, then Jessica Pegula and finally Mirra Andreeva, before eventually bowing out in the semi‑finals to Coco Gauff. A first golden Grand Slam adventure that perfectly illustrated her ability to raise her level against the very best players in the world. A few weeks later, she confirmed her outstanding form by capturing her first WTA 250 title on the clay of Hamburg. A success that propelled her into the Top 50 and allowed her to reach a career‑high ranking at the start of the 2026 season.
On court, Boisson stands out for a dense and thoughtful style of play. Blessed with outstanding court coverage, she knows how to extend rallies and wear down her opponents. Her ability to vary trajectories, defend with rigour and then seize the initiative at the right moment makes her a particularly difficult player to outmanoeuvre, especially on clay. Mentally robust, she displays remarkable clarity in key moments, a rare quality at her age. Ambitious yet humble, Loïs Boisson embodies one of the most credible hopes of French women’s tennis.
