The first Chinese player since Na Li to establish herself firmly inside the world’s top 10, Zheng Qinwen embodies the resurgence of Asian tennis. Born in Shiyan in 2002, she began playing at a very young age and turned professional in 2018 at just 16, following an impressive junior career that included semi‑final runs at Roland‑Garros and the US Open in 2019.

Crowned at WTA 250 level and then at WTA 500 level as early as 2023, she has since produced a series of standout performances, defeating several top‑20 players and reaching the latter stages of major tournaments. In Grand Slams, she enjoyed her first significant breakthroughs by reaching the quarter‑finals of the US Open in both 2023 and 2024, before making the final of the 2024 Australian Open, where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka. Later that same year, she also reached the championship match at the WTA Finals, losing by the narrowest of margins to Coco Gauff.

To date, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games remain the pinnacle of her career. On the clay courts of Roland‑Garros, Zheng became the first Asian player (men or women) in history to win Olympic singles gold, defeating Donna Vekic 6–2, 6–3 on Court Philippe‑Chatrier after notably beating Iga Swiatek “on her home ground” in the semi‑finals.

Agile, explosive, creative and fiercely competitive, the Olympic champion boasts a complete and daring game. Her powerful forehand, precise backhand and ability to accelerate through the diagonals allow her to dictate the tempo against any opponent. These achievements have already carried her into the world’s top five, establishing her as a true icon in China. And Zheng Qinwen has no intention of stopping there.
