Emotions for Kenin
No.4 seed Sofia Kenin burst into tears the second she wrapped up a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro to reach the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros for the first time.
The reigning Australian Open champion went up 2-0 in the opening set but lost six games in a row to surrender the lead.
Kenin, 21, recovered with a vengeance and secured package to the last eight in one hour and 44 minutes.
She let all the emotions from the stress of the contest flow upon its completion and will now await the winner of the clash between Ons Jabeur - whom she beat in the Australian Open quarter-finals this year - and Danielle Collins. That last-16 match has been postponed until Tuesday due to the rain.
"She played really well. She's such a tough player to play. I'm sorry that I had to win, but I'm just super proud of myself," said Kenin after the victory.
The American is also through to the quarter-finals in doubles alongside her partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
