Rafael Jodar : Player card

Will Rafael Jodar follow in the footsteps of his renowned predecessors Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz? While it is still far too early to answer that question, one thing can already be said with confidence: the young Spaniard is learning fast. Having made his ATP Tour debut only in January 2026, he has already opened his trophy cabinet and produced a series of eye‑catching performances in the spring.

An only child, born on 17 September 2006 in Madrid, Jodar first picked up a racket at the age of four on the clay courts of the Chamartín club in the north of the Spanish capital. It was within this well‑known ITF hub – which also nurtured the development of fellow Spanish prospect Martin Landaluce – that this devoted Nadal fan, who also shares his idol’s passion for Real Madrid, began to build a complete game. From an early age, he stood out for his baseline discipline and the impressive weight of his shots.

After a junior career highlighted by a US Open title in 2024 and a rise to world No.4 in the category, “Rafa” continued his development in the United States, enrolling at the University of Virginia and competing in two seasons of college tennis. An experience that notably strengthened his character. His progress was first confirmed by three Challenger titles in 2025 and a qualification for the Next Gen ATP Finals. But it was in 2026 that he truly introduced himself to the wider tennis public.

Comfortable on all surfaces, Jodar made a promising Grand Slam debut in Melbourne, reaching the second round after coming through qualifying. He repeated the feat at the Miami Masters 1000, where his run ended in the third round. Particularly at home on clay – like many of his compatriots – he claimed the first title of his professional career at the ATP 250 in Marrakech, in just his seventh main‑draw appearance on the tour.

Currently coached by his father, Rafael Jodar also surprised many with his ability to back up those performances, reaching the semi‑finals of the ATP 500 in Barcelona before making the quarter‑finals of the Madrid Masters 1000. There, on home soil, he recorded his first career victory over a Top 10 player against Alex de Minaur, before eventually bowing out to Jannik Sinner.

Still very much a work in progress, Rafael Jodar remains grounded. Ambitious and hard‑working, he already embodies the future of Spanish tennis. Armed with a heavy, powerful forehand, impressive mobility for his 1.91m frame and a strong competitive mindset, he possesses the qualities required to establish himself at the highest level and to become one of the tour’s leading figures in the years to come.
