Inspired by the Stadium
The 2017 Roland-Garros collection conceived by adidas drew its inspiration directly from the stadium and the traditional colours of the Paris-based Grand Slam. According to Lotta Jurica, the equipment manufacturer’s head of design, the over-riding idea was to “...incorporate the colours and style specific to Roland-Garros in the design of this collection. That’s why we were keen to have blocks of colour in green, which are traditionally associated with the tournament, and to get back to the classic tennis cuts.”
"Boost" and "Clima" for Tsonga
Dedicated to performance, this collection boasts adidas’ cutting-edge technology such as Clima, which brings ventilation and fast evaporation of perspiration to the men’s textile range. Regarding the tops, Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga selected the polo, while Dominic Thiem and Sascha Zverev opted for the tee. As for shoes, the iconic Barricade has two versions: Barricade BOOST, worn during the tournament by Tsonga and offered in black/white/green as a nod to the Frenchman’s all-action game, and Barricade 2017 Roland-Garros, worn by Thiem and conceived for powerful play and optimised cushioning. Available in white/grey/orange.
Revamped classic cut for Angelique Kerber and Kristina Mladenovic
For the 2017 tournament, Angelique Kerber and Kristina Mladenovic, two of adidas’ biggest stars, will each wear a variant from this collection, notable for its greens, whites and greys. Same hues but different styles, then, for “Angie” et “Kiki”: a tank top and skort for the German, and a classically cut dress modernised by dual-coloured pleating along the hem for the Frenchwoman. On their feet, both women will wear adizero ubersonic 2.
